What I’m reading: Enlightenment and religion

Galileo and Viviano by Tito Lessi, 1892

This article from the Dispatch is a great discussion about the artificial division we create between religion and Enlightenment. Faith can inform reason and vice versa.

One thought in particular for my own faith community: uniting ourselves to efforts to establish a dominant and coercive Christian political force will not end well for the Church if Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As long as we claim unique revelation and authority, we will not benefit from Christian dominance in the political sphere. We will be viewed and treated as outsiders. Giving the Bible a place of privilege in our society will increase suspicion of the Book of Mormon. We have Far West and Nauvoo as evidence.
